How To Design Your Dream Garage
How To Design Your Dream Garage
Design the garage you need using Premier Metal Structures Custom 3D Builder. You can design anything from a 2-car garage to a commercial size workshop. In this article we focus on a step by step process to utilize this program to design your future custom metal garage.
This guide is based on desktop use of the custom 3D builder to design a garage. If you need additional assistance using the mobile version of this tool please contact us at (877) 600-5980.
Step 1: Confirm Your State
When you access the 3D Builder you will be asked to select the State that the building will be installed in. How do we use this information? The first way is to make sure that we service your area. We also use this information to send you an accurate price for your area, when you submit your building design for a quote.
Step 2: Select Your Building Type
In this section you will choose “Garages” and be given different size options. If you already know what size garage you need based on the amount of space you have available, you can select based on size.
12’ wide to 24’ wide = Standard Garage
26’ wide to 30’ wide = Triple Wide Garage
If you’re not sure what size to get contact our team with the details of what you would use the building for and we will get a size recommendation and design sent over to you!
Step 3: Built & Size
In this step you will select the dimensions you need as well as what gauge framing you would like. If you scroll down you will see the option to select 14 gauge, the standard framing available, or 12 gauge, an available upgrade for thicker framing.
Reminder: At any point in the design process you can select “Get Quote” and your design as it will be submitted to our team for a free quote. Have questions? Call us at (877) 600-5980.
Step 4: Lean-To’s
A lean-to on a metal building is a roof extension added on to the main unit. You can choose to leave a lean-to open or partially enclosed for a porch style look or fully enclose for extra storage space.
To add a lean-to you must first toggle on the selection you want to add (front, back, left or right). For example, if you wanted to add a lean-to to the right side of your building you would click “Right”, Toggle on “Add Lean” and then select the size lean-to that you would like.
Step 5: Wall Options
If your building is less than 32’ wide then you will have the option to leave the side panels horizontal or you can choose to upgrade by checking the “Vertical Panels” option.
Since we are building a garage, you will most likely choose to leave the Center Building settings as is. However you will have the option to edit the paneling as well as add insulation at this point if you would like to!
If you did decide to add a lean to in the previous step, then you can scroll down to select the lean to options. This is where you can choose to partially or fully enclose your lean to, based on how you are choosing to use this building addition.
Step 6: Colors
Match your garage to your house or add in the pop of color your property needs. Select the colors that fit your vision the best for the roof, walls and trim!
You also have the option to add a winscott to the outer walls which would give your garage a two tone color. You can add this by scrolling down and checking the box next to “Add Wainscot (Full Building)”
__Helpful Hint: You can change your mind on building colors up until your building is scheduled so this step is not one to stress about! Color does NOT affect the price unless you choose a “Premium” color or decide to add the winscott option. __
Step 7: Add Garage Doors, Windows & More!
Congratulations! You have made it to the final step in the design process of bringing your dream garage to life. In this step you can click the drop down that says “Active Wall” and select the wall you wish to add a feature to.
For example, if you are adding 2 10’x10’ garage doors to the front wall to make your garage a residential style 2-car garage, then you would follow these steps.
- Select Front from the Active Wall drop down
- Click Add Roll Up Door
- Click on the white garage door that was just added to your building and click the pencil in the circle icon.
- Select Size 10’x10’ and you can choose to add extra features here as well if you wish
Helpful Tip: Choosing a garage door that’s not white will increase the price as well as your expected lead time. This is because colored garage doors are typically special ordered as needed. If you like the look this feature adds to your garage then submit your design as is and be sure to ask our team how this affects your lead time so you have an idea.
If you don’t like where the garage door is placed all you have to do is click and drag to move it around.
Once you have added all of your doors, windows, walk-in doors, and frame-outs you can then select the “Center Align” button on the right hand side
Reminder: If you can’t get the door placement exactly how you want it our team is here to help! Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like assistance in the completion of your custom metal building design, contact us today!
Step 8: Submit Your Garage Design for a Quote
When you click “Next” after the doors and windows, you will then see a screen with different checkbox options. If you know that you definitely need anything on that list please check it. Our team will ask you about all of these items before your order is placed so you can skip this if you would like and move straight on to “Save Quote”
When you click “Save Quote” a form will pop up asking for your general contact information. When you click submit our team is notified and will begin working on your quote as soon as possible.
